コーヒーをテーマにした初の切手展示！切手100点が一堂に。
初日は郵便でコーヒーを贈るイベントも開催‼

一枚の切手も、一杯のコーヒーも、遠い誰かの手から手へ、国境を越えて旅をする。
そこには、気候や土壌、人々が積み重ねてきた時間を映し出す物語がある。
消印が郵便の旅の証を刻むように、
コーヒーもまた、たどってきた道のりを香りと味に宿している。
切手とともに、その旅路をたどってみませんか？

　郵政博物館（所在：東京都墨田区）では、国際コーヒーデーを記念した展覧会「コーヒーロード展～切手でたどるコーヒーの物語～」を2026年10月1日(木)から12月27日(日)まで開催いたします。

10月1日は「コーヒーの日」です。1983年に全日本コーヒー協会が制定したこの記念日は、2015年に国際コーヒー機関（ICO）が「国際コーヒーデー」として制定し、2026年には国連総会において正式な国際記念日として採択されました。
　1902（明治35）年の開館以来、郵政博物館では約33万種類の世界の切手を展示しています。本展では、国際コーヒーデーを記念し、世界各国で発行されたコーヒーに関する切手約100点を一堂に紹介します。コーヒーをテーマとした切手展としては、当館初の企画です。
コーヒーは、一杯の飲み物であると同時に、人・文化・産地を結ぶ存在でもあります。本展では、切手を通して、コーヒーがどのように世界へ広がり、各地で育まれてきたのかを、歴史や文化とともに展示します。
　本展は、コーヒーロード研究者であり、グローバルコーヒーソサエティ理事のユン・オスン博士の監修・協力のもと開催します。切手に描かれたコーヒーの木や実、収穫、焙煎、喫茶文化など、多彩な図柄に込められた背景やエピソードを、わかりやすくご紹介します。
　会期初日の10月1日には、会場で85円以上の切手を貼付した台紙にコーヒーをデザインした消印（記念小型印）を押印するほか、コーヒーの試飲、ドリップバッグコーヒーに手紙を添えて郵送するワークショップ、ユン・オスン博士と当館学芸員による記念講演会を開催いたします。
　世界各地で発行された切手を通して、コーヒーが歩んできた歴史と文化、そして世界を結んできた物語をご覧いただける展覧会です。ぜひこの機会にご来館ください。

主な展示（常設展示室内切手コーナー）　　

　収蔵点数は約350点。本展ではその中から約100点をご紹介します。展示は、コーヒーベルトと呼ばれる赤道周辺の国々で発行された、コーヒー栽培や収穫など農業をテーマとした切手、コーヒー産業をテーマとした切手のほか、17世紀以降ヨーロッパを中心に世界へ広がったカフェ文化やコーヒー器具など、コーヒー文化をテーマとした切手で構成します。

COFFEE ROAD: The Story of Coffee Told Through Stamps

To celebrate International Coffee Day, Postal Museum Japan presents its first exhibition dedicated to coffee-themed stamps.
Around 100 stamps issued by countries around the world will be displayed, tracing how coffee travelled across borders and became rooted in different places and cultures.
Through images of coffee trees, cherries, harvesting, roasting and café culture, the exhibition explores coffee not only as a beverage, but also as something that connects people, cultures and places of origin.
The exhibition is presented with the supervision and cooperation of Dr. Ohsoon Yun, Coffee Road researcher and Director of the Global Coffee Society.

COFFEE ROAD: Tokyo Exhibition Traces Coffee's Global Journeys Through Stamps

Postal Museum Japan's first exhibition devoted to coffee opens on International Coffee Day and runs through December 27, 2026
TOKYO, JAPAN -- Postal Museum Japan, located in Tokyo Skytree Town in Sumida Ward, will open COFFEE ROAD: The Story of Coffee Told Through Stamps on October 1, 2026, International Coffee Day. The exhibition brings together approximately 100 of the roughly 350 coffee-related stamps identified within the museum's collection of about 330,000 stamps from around the world. Organized by the Tsushin Bunka Association, the exhibition runs through December 27, 2026, with cooperation from the Global Coffee Society (GCS) and curatorial advisory input from coffee geographer Dr. Ohsoon YUN.
In 2026, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 1 as International Coffee Day through Resolution 80/248, giving new international recognition to a date that the International Coffee Organization has promoted globally since 2015.
Through stamps depicting coffee trees, harvests, processing, roasting, cups, cafés, and everyday scenes, COFFEE ROAD follows the many ways coffee has moved between producing and consuming regions and acquired new meanings across generations and continents. The exhibition invites visitors to read a postage stamp not only as a collectible object, but also as a compact record of agriculture, industry, design, national representation, cultural memory, and global connection.

From Coffee Road Research to a Museum Exhibition

The exhibition also extends Dr. YUN's ongoing Coffee Road research, which examines how coffee travels across places, cultures, and time. Following the pandemic, while based in Korea, Dr. YUN developed Coffee Road through research, writing, lectures, educational programs, and public engagement. She now continues to expand the project from Japan across East Asia and beyond. The project looks beyond coffee as a beverage or commodity to ask how origins are represented, translated, remembered, and reinterpreted after coffee reaches new places.
During the nearly three-month exhibition period, GCS plans to work with a range of coffee, academic, cultural, and international partners on related tastings, talks, educational activities, and exchange programs. These collaborations will connect the museum's stamp collection with living coffee cultures and contemporary conversations about producing regions, trade, memory, and cultural encounter.

About Dr. Ohsoon YUN

Dr. Ohsoon YUN is a coffee geographer and Visiting Researcher at the African Studies Center, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. She holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Exeter (UK), based on long-term research on Ethiopian coffee and coffee tourism. She is a co-founder and Director of Global Coffee Society. Her work in Coffee Geography examines how coffee moves across places, cultures, and time through the lenses of agriculture, industry, tourism, diplomacy, translation, representation, and memory. Her current Coffee Road research grew out of work developed while she was based in Korea following the pandemic and is now expanding across East Asia and beyond.

2026년 유엔총회는 결의 80/248을 통해 10월 1일을 국제 커피의 날로 지정했다. 이 날짜는 국제커피기구(ICO)가 2015년부터 전 세계적으로 기념해 온 국제 커피의 날에 새로운 국제적 의미를 더한다.

커피로드 연구에서 박물관 전시로

이번 전시는 커피가 장소와 문화, 시간을 가로질러 어떻게 이동하는지를 탐구해 온 윤오순 박사의 '커피로드(Coffee Road)' 연구를 박물관 공간으로 확장한 프로젝트이기도 하다. 윤 박사는 팬데믹 이후 한국에 체류하는 동안 커피로드와 관련한 연구, 글쓰기, 강연, 교육 및 공공 프로그램을 이어 왔으며, 최근에는 일본을 거점으로 동아시아 각지에서 커피로드 연구를 확장하고 있다. 이 연구는 커피를 단순한 음료나 상품으로 보는 데서 나아가, 커피가 새로운 장소에 도착한 뒤 산지가 어떻게 표현되고 번역되며, 기억되고 재해석되는지를 추적한다.
약 3개월의 전시 기간 동안 GCS는 커피업계, 학계, 문화기관, 국제교류 관련 단체 등 다양한 파트너와 협력해 시음회, 토크, 교육 프로그램, 교류 행사를 전개할 예정이다. 이를 통해 박물관의 우표 컬렉션을 오늘날의 살아 있는 커피문화와 연결하고, 산지와 무역, 기억, 문화적 만남을 둘러싼 동시대의 논의로 확장한다.

윤오순 박사 소개
